Calculated learning in math
August 30, 2010
When it comes to multiplying numbers with four decimal points, completing the equation by hand was an unnecessary and frustrating task for Mr. Homan's 7th and 8th grade math students. To help, Mr. Homan turned to DonorsChoose to find donors willing to help him get the 50 scientific calculators he needed for his students.
"With these calculators, my students will be able understand and compute more complex mathematical concepts like sine, cosine, tangent, square roots, etc.," said Mr. Homan. "They will have more exposure to the tools that they will need in their future math courses and college entrance exams like the SAT."
Within about two weeks, his project was fully funded and the students can now save time on calculations and focus more on learning.
