The Mathematics of Chess

August 26, 2008

Fountain Square Academy 7th Grade Math teacher Caren Forrest has found a way to get her students to do a little more math – playing chess.

“Chess is very mathematical,” Forrest says. “It teaches the rules of each piece, how to think through a situation, and how to plan one’s move ahead of time.”

Forrest allows a few select students to play chess one day a week – Friday – when the students would have either art or music.
