Free Title I After-School Tutoring Enrollment Is Underway
November 5, 2008
Fountain Square Academy and Fall Creek Academy will host after-school tutoring programs this school year and enrollment for those programs has begun.
The Greater Educational Opportunities Foundation (GEO Foundation) is providing free Title I tutoring, or Supplemental Educational Services (SES) tutoring after the beginning of the year. This federally-funded free tutoring is available to students who are enrolled in Indianapolis Public Schools identified as “Schools in Improvement” and who qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Those students will receive thirty (30) free hours of tutoring in math, English, or reading. GEO Foundation is also able to offer qualifying students a free dinner and free transportation from their school to either Fountain Square Academy or Fall Creek Academy – and then to their door at the end of each tutoring session.
In the past, GEO Foundation’s tutoring has produced positive results. In a recent 10-week period of forty (40) total hours of tutoring, students made an average grade-level gain of 70% in reading, 47% in language, and 30% in math.
For those students who do not qualify for free Title I tutoring, the same tutoring is available for a small fee. Transportation and dinner cannot be provided for non-qualifying students, but the evening meal can be purchased.
For more information about free Title I tutoring or paid tutoring, call GEO at 713-4190.
