A Day at the Fair

Every year hundreds gather at the center of the state for contests, rides, vendors, food, concerts, field trips, and a ton of fun at the Indiana State Fair. This year, Fountain Square Academy students attended the Indiana State Fair on August 11, 2011. The Indiana State Fair field trip was a great success for the sixth, seventh, and eighth graders as well as returning 4-H members who took some time out of their summer plans to spend a day at the fair. The students joined other visitors for the Indiana 4-H Foundation 50th Anniversary Celebration that took place with a lot of neat events and well-known visitors attending.

As we all know, what’s a fair without food? As part of the fun and excitement, this year the Fountain Square Academy students, also known as the “Cool Dogs” 4-H members cheered on and participated as they devoured a grand 10 foot built hotdog provided by King David Dogs’ restaurant. As this activity only took about an impressive 15 minutes to finish off the massive hot dog, the students had spare time to ride attractions, and see famous figures like Dr. Oz, famous TV host and doctor, and Indiana’s first lady, Cheri Daniels. Even more exposure, these students were mentioned by the IndyStar online which features an article on the fair. The article mentions information about such famous figures and lists the “Cool Dogs” as participants in the hotdog-eating “challenge”. Overall, these students went all out this year and definitely seemed to have enjoyed a fun, activity-filled day at the Indiana State Fair.
