We Have a New Name: Fountain Square Academy!
School Board Unanimously Chooses to Change School Name and to Welcome Three New Board Members

March 6, 2008, is a birthday, of sorts, for all of us.

On that day, after concluding its normal discussions of old business and new business, our School Board discussed a proposed change to the moniker our school has proudly borne since its creation.

Pros and cons of the existing name and of a few possible new names were discussed at some length (“Is it necessary to include the word ‘charter’?” “What special meaning does ‘academy’ have?” “Is ‘Fountain Square’ preferred over an individual’s name?”). Ultimately, a motion was made to change the school name from “21st Century Charter School @ Fountain Square” to “Fountain Square Academy.” The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

Earlier in the meeting the Board unanimously welcomed three new members. Indianapolis Marion County Councilman-at-Large Kent Smith has three children at Fall Creek Academy. Entrepreneur Michael Sutton is CEO/Chairman of Infrastructure Engineering. And Mary Chalmers is a program consultant for First Steps at the FSSA. Each brings unique skills and an exciting new perspective to the Board.

You’ll see our new school name in print more and more. Slowly but surely, websites will be revised, stationery will be changed out, spirit wear will be created, and signs replaced. Until then, Bulldogs, when Great Aunt Opal comes to visit and asks you to remind her what school you attend, you can impress her with Fountain Square Academy. Go FSA Bulldogs!
