Who inspired you to select teaching as a vocation?
My initial inspiration to teach comes from my parents. My father teaches high school math and my mother teaches 3rd grade. Growing up I watched them work relentlessly to ensure that their students got a quality education, even though they were not from the “good side of town.” I always found myself amazed at how appreciative their students were. When I finally got the opportunity to see them teach, I was in awe. They were so patient, so caring, and so determined to see their students succeed. When I began to work with students, I realized why this was. I realized where the passion and care came from. This then lead me to my second reason as to why I teach: my students and their stories. My students come from all different walks of life and all different backgrounds. They have stories, both good and bad, that are truly inspirational. Each day I get the opportunity to impact these stories, and to me that is the greatest opportunity ever.
